Oyo Gets 7.2 Billion Paris Club Excess Deductions, Says It Used It In Paying August And September Salaries

Oyo State state has confirmed it received N7.2 billion as its share of the Paris Club excess deductions, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The state Information, Culture and Tourism Commissioner, Toye Arulogun, disclosed this in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital while speaking to newsmen.
The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi had on January 4 during the state’s annual inter-religious service, debunked claims that the state collected any fund from the sum of N522.74 billion approved by the Federal Government to be paid to 36 States in the country.
Arulogun explained that 60 per cent of the fund collected was added to the federal allocation to the state to pay salaries of workers for the months of August and September 2016.
Arulogun said, "Oyo State was initially excluded from the states to benefit from the Paris Club over-deducted fund. "The governor was not at peace with the development and swung into action to ensure that the state was included on the list. “The effort of the governor has yielded result.”
"We have used 60 per cent of the funds received to pay salaries as promised by the governor during the inter-faith service of the Oyo State Government held on January 4," Mr. Arulogun added.
