Armed Robbery: Two Men To Die By Hanging

Two men have been sentenced to death by hanging for armed robbery by an Osun State High Court sitting in Iwo.

The Osun State Ministry of Justice spokesman, Opeyemi Bello disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen.

The convicts were arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery, contrary to sections 6 (b) and 1 ( 1 ) and ( 2 ), ( a ) of the Robbery and Firearms ( Special Provisions ) Act, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

A gang of four armed robbers had in May 2012 invaded the residence of one Mrs. Aladete at Asabi Okin, in the Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State, where they beat the victim before disappering with her official car.

Luck, however, ran out on them as the police arrested them as they were about to sell the stolen vehicle.

When they were arranged in 2014, the convicts pleaded not guilty.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr. Bamidele Salawu, had called three witnesses and tendered exhibits which were admitted to which there were no objections.

The statement added that the court president, Justice Moshood Adeigbe while delivering judgment on Monday found them guilty on the two counts charge preferred against them and sentenced them to death by hanging.
