Mother Marrys-off Daughter To Pay Debt
Udoh Mercy, a petty trader who is a single mother of twin girls has married off her daughter to pay the sum of N300,000 she borrowed to pay some domestic debt and increase her wares.
Inability to repay the debt, made her marry off one of her 19-year-old twin daughter, Udoh MaryJane, to a 44-year-old mechanic, Okon Emmanuel.
According to Mercy, giving Mary Jane away like that was difficult and she felt like committing suicide and since she couldnt repay the debt she ended up betraying a daugther's trust.
Mercy said that she was unable to make a living, especially when her other daughter had to carry out a surgery on hernia.
As she followed her daughter to her new home, MaryJane refused to leave her mother’s side because she is mummy’s pet.
In a chat with Emmanuel, he expressed his love for her, saying “I am not counting on the money I’ve lent to my mother-in-law. That is the way God wants it. With time, she will be used to me. I am pleased with this marriage.”
