Check Out The Language To Be Used In Teaching Mathematics And Science Subjects In Schools In Nigeria

Mathematics and Science subjects are to be taught with indigenous languages at the level of primary education, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said.

The minister stated that the plan is being developed to encourage the application of science and technology in the country. The minister who disclosed this while speaking to pupils of Ekulu Primary School in Enugu, Enugu, noted that the country's future is hinged on how well science subjects and mathematics were applied.

Onu was at the school to present sets of computer and other science equipment donated by the by his Ministry.

The minister stated that Government was worried about diminished interest of pupils in mathematics and the science subjects, and as such, plans are on the way to teach mathematics and sciences in indigenous languages in primary schools.

"These pupils grow up with their indigenous languages at home before they start going to school, where they are now taught in foreign languages," Onu said.
